Ink Pad
White Sheet of Paper
Wiriting Utensil
Magnifying glass
Procedure:
- As a class, choose a finger that everyone will analyze.
- Roll the chosen finger on the ink pad to get ink on the finger
- If necessary, review how to properly take a fingerprint.
- After you have inked your finger, roll it on the white sheet of paper. If your did not get a good fingerprint, re-ink your finger and try again.
- Once you have a good fingerprint, identify the pattern (example: loop, arch or whorl) and add your data to the data table on the board.
- Having marked your pattern type on the board, return to your original fingerprint and identify 20 minutae. Try to identify as many different minutae as possible (eDo not identify 20 bifurcations, try to identify, pores, bifurcations, islands, eyes, etc.) Draw a line to each minutae you identify and label it- you may want to label them in a color besides black.
Questions:
- Did the calss percentage agree with the national average? Support you claim with data from the data table.
- Describe how you could improve the data/data collection so that the results might be considered more reliable.
- Using the Chi-squared statistical analysis, determine if the differences between your data and the national averages are significant.
Below is the chart that you will need to determine whether you should reject or fail to reject your null hypothesis. You should use a p value of .05.
Leaving Your Mark Pt II
By the end of the lab, you will be able to correctly complete a fingerprint 10 card and organize it using the Henry Classification System
Materials:
Ink Pad
Magnifying Glass
Personal Identification card
Procedure:
Materials:
Ink Pad
Magnifying Glass
Personal Identification card
Procedure:
- Find a partner in the class, this is the person that will fingerprint you.
- Each person will need to collect a personal identification card and fill out the top portion of the card--> DO NOT COMPLETE THE SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER
- Before you do the personal identification card, make sure to practice fingerprinting your partner as you will only get one personal identification card, if you mess up, you will not be given another card.
- After you have completed the upper portion of the personal identification card, your partner will fingerprint you using the methods discussed in class.
- Once the personal identification card has been completed, identify the different patterns of each fingerprint.
- Upon completion of the personal identification card, and identifying the fingerprint patterns, add your data to the data table on the board and organize your card according to the Henry Classification system. We will be using these cards again later.
