Dr. Michael Crichton (b. 1942- d. 2008) was a well-known physician (medical doctor) who was also screenwriter and wrote books. He wrote scripts for shows like ER and movies such as Jurassic Park.
One of the more interesting facts about Dr. Crichton is that he started incorporating actual scientific facts into everyday fiction, oftentimes spending years studying the subject, creating a new genre known as the techno-thriller. This means that although the story itself is fiction, many of the details will hold up to scientific fact, making them more believable and realistic.
Jurassic Park is perhaps one of Dr. Crichton’s best-known books and was a best-selling book that he eventually adapted to become a movie that is still a massive hit today. It was so successful it ended up producing several sequels, including the most recent move Jurassic World.
Realize, that although this is a work of fiction, many of the facts that are presented in the book are true and although a little outdated, similar processes are still used today.
Attached, you will find an excerpt of Jurassic Park, where the first guests to Jurassic Park are being led through the lab to see how the dinosaurs are being created. Answer the following questions on your own sheet of paper.
Note: You may have seen Jurassic Park or any of its sequels. Please understand that these are fiction and are meant to entertain. A movie wouldn’t be fun without any action or drama. Please separate what happens in the movie with what you think may actually happen. Remember: nobody would write a book about everything going perfectly.
